  • Some questions remain unanswered even with the passing of time. Today, the origins of English Trifle (Zuppa Inglese) remain a mystery. Despite its name, it is likely that this delicious dessert didn’t originate in England. It is unclear whether an Anglo-Saxon recipe inspired this dessert or whether it was named after one of its main ingredients, meaning the most popular liqueur among British sailors: rum.

    The Italian version contains alkermes used in some areas in Italy to help children calm down after a fright. Our English Trifle can be a remedy against sadness. A spoonful or two, and you’ll have the biggest grin on your face.
